Become a Friend
Support the Library by becoming a Friend of Niles District Library.
What Do the Friends Do?
The purpose of the Friends is to raise funds for support of the services and programs of the Library and to promote use of the services and participation in programs of the Library.
In 2010 the Friends donated over $6,000 to the library. The money was used to expand the library’s audiobook collection; it funded the library’s participation in local festivals and the Berrien County Youth Fair; the Friends are sponsoring the Fourth Annual Costume Contest @ Your Library (October 30, 2010); and thanks to the Friends, the library now loans hundreds of book bags each month.
Why Join the Friends?
The main reason to join the Friends is simply to support your local library. However, there are a couple small perks to being a Friend. Twice a year, the library holds books sales with special pricing for our Friends. These sales are held at the library on the Saturday of National Library Week and the Saturday of Apple Festival. See the library's calendar for exact book sale dates and times.
How do I become a Friend?
You can become a friend by printing out the attached form and mailing it or bringing it to the library with a check. Regular membership is just $5.00 annually. Those who wish to provide additional support for the library may want to consider joining at one of the higher membership levels, including a Lifetime Friend membership of $100. When do the Friends meet?
The Board meets the second Monday of January, March, May, July, September and November at 4:00pm in the library's community room. All members are welcome. The November meeting serves as our annual meeting. Board members and officers are elected during this meeting in even numbered years.
How else can I become involved with the Friends?
The best way to get to know your Friends is to volunteer at the book sales that are scheduled on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00am - Noon.
