MISSION

The mission of Niles District Library is to provide our community with access and guidance to resources that inform, entertain and enrich.

DISTRICT

The geographic district served by the library is the City and Township of Niles, except for those portions of the township which are in Buchanan School District. The library also serves Bertrand Township through a contractual agreement.

OUR COLLECTION
Books

In the adult area you will find recreational reading including best-sellers, mysteries, romances, westerns and science fiction. We offer informational books on every subject imaginable.  Feed your child's imagination with books from our children's area. Tweens and teens will enjoy our collection of books from our YA section.

Magazines and Newspapers

Nearly 200 magazines and over a dozen local newspapers are available.  These include young-adult and children's magazines.

Videos and DVDs

The library owns close to 3000 videos including family favorites, box-office hits and documentaries.

Audio Books

Hit the road with one of our audio books on cassette and CD. Both children's and adult books are available.

Online Catalog

Our online catalog allows you to browse our collection from any computer with Internet access. You can log into your account to see what items you have checked out and when they are due, renew items and reserve items.

Children's Services

The Children's Depot offers storytimes, craft bags, summer reading programs, the Chess Club and other special events.

Trained professionals staff our information desk. They will use our extensive collection, as well as online resources, to help you find the information you need.

Local History and Genealogy

Our staff can assist you in finding information on local history and researching your family history. This department's collection includes Niles newspapers, local yearbooks and Michigan census records. An index to obituaries in Niles newspapers is also available.

Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery

Our gallery is located in the rotunda and features the work of local artist and craftspeople.  The exhibit changes about every eight weeks.

Computer Classes

We offer a wide variety of computer classes for both beginners and more advanced users. Ask for information in the computer lab.

Book Club

You'll find lively discussion at our monthly book club. The books range from current best-sellers to perennial favorites. Ask for a brochure of this year's selections.

Copy Machines

Copiers are available just outside the door to the Local History and Genealogy room.

Computer Access

You will find computers with high-speed Internet access and office applications in the computer lab located on the lower level of the Library. Scanning, color printing, and copying services are available for a fee.

Friends of Niles District Library

Friends support the library through fundraising and volunteer activities. Basic membership is just $5.00.

Online Databases

Your local library card provides you with access to subscription databases with full-text coverage of thousands of periodicals. Learn how to access these at home or in the library at the information desk.

Community Room

The library offers a meeting room for groups and organizations located within the library's service area. There is a fee. For more information contact the computer lab.

MichiCard

The library participates in the MichiCard program. With a MichiCard, our patrons can access materials at other libraries, and patrons from outside our service area can check out print materials. Ask for more information at the circulation desk.

Subscription Cards

Subscription cards give you access to all the same borrowing privileges as our tax-paying citizens.  And they cost about the same as what a person who lives in our district pays in taxes (per capita): $25.00 per year or $15.00 for a six-month period.
